About ECU Worldwide

ECU Worldwide is not a shipping line, and the distinction is not pedantic — it changes what your paperwork means, which company is responsible for what, and where to look when something goes wrong. ECU is an LCL consolidator, or in regulatory terms a non-vessel-operating common carrier. Its business is buying container space from the lines that do own ships, filling those containers with cargo from many unrelated shippers, and issuing each of those shippers its own house bill of lading. It owns no vessels. It owns no containers. Asking about its fleet size is asking a question the company's business model has no answer to.

The company was founded in Antwerp in 1987, beginning operations on 1 January 1988 and initially serving the Belgian forwarding trade before extending across Europe and then globally under the name ECU-Line. Its ownership shifted to India in stages: Allcargo Logistics, the Mumbai group that had been ECU's Indian agent, took a 33 percent stake in 2005 and moved to full ownership in 2006. In May 2016 the group consolidated ECU-Line, the US consolidator Econocaribe and a series of other acquisitions under the single ECU Worldwide brand. The company describes its network as more than 300 offices across 180 countries and positions itself as the largest LCL consolidator in the world, a claim its parent repeats and which is widely accepted in the trade press. It launched its own booking and visibility platform, ECU360, in 2018.

The parent structure changed materially in 2026, and anyone reading older material will have it wrong. Allcargo Group spent roughly four years restructuring itself into separate listed businesses, a process approved by the National Company Law Tribunal in Mumbai in October 2025 and completed when Allcargo Global Limited began trading on the NSE and BSE on 3 July 2026. ECU Worldwide is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Allcargo Global, the international supply-chain entity, rather than of Allcargo Logistics Limited, which retained the domestic Indian express-distribution and contract-logistics businesses. Shareholders received one Allcargo Global share for each Allcargo Logistics share held. The wider group now comprises four separately listed companies: Allcargo Global, Allcargo Logistics, Allcargo Terminals and TransIndia Real Estate. Two practical consequences follow from the consolidator model. First, the vessel carrying your cargo will belong to Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM or whichever line ECU bought space from on that sailing, and seeing an unfamiliar carrier in the vessel details is correct rather than an error. Second, LCL timelines carry an extra step at each end — cargo must be gathered and stuffed at origin and destuffed at destination before individual consignees collect — which is a normal feature of consolidated freight, not a delay. Maalbardaar files Pakistani customs declarations against ECU house bills directly.

Maalbardaar is an independent logistics technology platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by ECU Worldwide, a subsidiary of Allcargo Logistics. "ECU Worldwide" and all related marks are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here for identification purposes only. For official information, visit the carrier's own website . Carrier data sources: Parent company Allcargo Logistics and the "300+ offices across 180 countries" network figure are ECU Worldwide's own published claims. Founded 1987 per business-press sources. Container prefix deliberately omitted and confirmed absent: we checked ECUU in the BIC ISO 6346 register and it belongs to an unrelated Russian company, consistent with ECU being a consolidator rather than a vessel operator. SCAC omitted: sources conflict between "ECU" and "ECUW" and the discrepancy could not be resolved. A single headquarters city could not be established beyond ECU being part of the Mumbai-based Allcargo group.
