Asyad Line

Asyad Line is Oman's container liner operator, and understanding it requires separating three layers of the same state structure. At the top sits ASYAD Group, the government-owned logistics conglomerate that runs Oman's ports, free zones and wider supply-chain infrastructure. Below that sits Asyad Shipping Company, which floated on the Muscat Stock Exchange in March 2025 under the ticker ASCO, raising roughly RO 128 million (about $333 million) at 123 baisa per share, the top of its offer range. Asyad Line is one segment inside Asyad Shipping — the liner shipping arm — sitting alongside crude tankers, product tankers, gas carriers and dry bulk. This matters when reading fleet figures. Asyad Shipping's headline numbers, an operating fleet of around 45 owned vessels plus co-owned and chartered tonnage, and a stated plan to invest $2.3 to $2.7 billion in fleet expansion through 2029, describe the whole group. The overwhelming majority of that is tankers, gas and bulk. Only a small fraction of it is containers.

The container operation itself began in 2010 as Oman Container Lines, a common feeder operator moving boxes on behalf of other carriers rather than selling its own bills of lading. It upgraded to full liner operator status in 2019 and took the Asyad Line name in March 2020. The strategic logic is geographic: Oman's three deepwater ports, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, sit outside the Strait of Hormuz, which is a genuine routing advantage over Gulf ports inside it whenever regional shipping comes under pressure. Asyad Line exists in substantial part to convert that geography into scheduled liner services.

Its service names are worth learning because they are easy to confuse. The Gulf Express is a short feeder loop between Jebel Ali and the Omani ports. The Far East Express is the long-haul rotation, connecting Southeast Asian ports through Singapore and Port Klang to Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Karachi and the Gulf; it was upgraded with a fourth ship, a new Jakarta call and weekly frequency. The Red Sea Express, launched in 2023, runs Nhava Sheva and Mundra to Salalah, Jeddah and Sokhna and does not touch Pakistan at all. Asyad has also partnered on Red Sea services with Folk Maritime from 2024, an arrangement CMA CGM subsequently joined as a third partner in early 2025, lifting frequency to weekly across three ships. Vessels deployed on these strings run in the roughly 2,800 to 4,400 TEU range. One structural feature deserves stating plainly: Asyad Line appears to own no containers registered in its own name, and does not publish a container vessel count. For a carrier this well documented on ports, services and corporate finance, the equipment side is unusually opaque. Maalbardaar clears Asyad-carried cargo arriving at Karachi.
