About Asyad Line
Asyad Line is Oman’s national container carrier, operating as the shipping arm of ASYAD Group, the state-owned conglomerate that also runs the country’s ports, free zones and wider logistics infrastructure. It began in 2010 as Oman Container Lines, a common feeder operator moving boxes for other carriers, stepped up to full liner operator status in 2019, and took the Asyad Line name in March 2020.
The strategy behind it is geographic. Oman’s three deepwater ports (Sohar, Duqm and Salalah) sit outside the Strait of Hormuz, which gives them a routing advantage the Gulf ports inside the Strait do not have. Asyad Line exists in large part to build liner services around that position, with a network concentrated on the Arabian Peninsula–India corridor: Gulf Express between Jebel Ali and Oman, India and Oman Express services into Nhava Sheva and Mundra, and a Red Sea Express reaching Jeddah and Sokhna.
For a carrier this well documented on history and network, one gap stands out: Asyad appears to own no containers in its own name. That is unusual enough to be worth stating plainly rather than papering over.
Asyad Line tracking: what to check first
Do not expect an Asyad container prefix. There isn’t one. We searched the BIC ISO 6346 register for ASYU, the code most tracking sites list for Asyad, and it returns nothing at all; it is not registered to any company. The other eight prefixes those sites attribute to Asyad (ONLU, TCNU, TCLU, BSIU, TRHU, FYCU, TCKU, TLLU) are every one of them container leasing company codes. Asyad almost certainly leases its entire container fleet.
So the prefix tells you nothing about the carrier here. On most lines you can at least sanity-check a container against the carrier’s own codes. On Asyad you cannot, because there are none. Rely on the bill of lading or booking reference instead.
Older paperwork may say Oman Container Lines. The rebrand was in 2020, so documentation predating it uses OCL. Same operation, same berths, different name.
The carrier does run its own tracking page, which is more than several larger lines offer, worth a look if you want a check independent of your forwarder.
What each Asyad Line tracking status means
Ocean carriers share the same terminal and vessel event vocabulary, so these milestones read the same whichever line you are tracking.
Gate in
The container passed through the terminal gate at the origin port and is now in the terminal's custody, waiting to be loaded.
Loaded on vessel
The box was lifted onto the ship. This is the milestone that fixes your shipment to a specific vessel and voyage number.
Vessel departure
The ship has sailed from the origin port. Transit time is measured from here, and it is the point most ETA calculations are anchored to.
Transshipment
The container was discharged at an intermediate hub and will be reloaded onto a second vessel. Most delays originate here rather than at origin.
Discharged
The container came off the ship at the destination port. Free time and demurrage clocks typically start from this event.
Gate out
The container left the terminal on a truck or rail wagon. Once this fires, the terminal's storage charges stop and the haulier's clock starts.
Empty return
The unpacked container was returned to the carrier's nominated depot. This closes the shipment and stops any per-diem detention charges.
