About Scan Global Logistics
Scan Global Logistics A/S is a Danish freight forwarder founded in 1975, which means it marked its fiftieth year in 2025. Its modern form dates from rather later than that: a 2007 merger of Scanam Transport and Mahé Freight created the current business, which has since grown substantially by acquisition across Europe, Asia Pacific, the Americas and Africa.
Its ownership is worth knowing because it is not what people often assume. Scan Global is neither independently held nor owned by a shipping line. It has passed through a succession of private equity owners, from Odin Equity in 2007 to AEA Investors in 2016 and more recently to CVC Capital Partners, which took a majority stake with AEA retaining a minority position.
Like ECU Worldwide, Scan Global is asset-light: it operates no vessels, no aircraft and no container fleet. It arranges transport across ocean, air, rail and road by buying capacity from the companies that do own those assets. That model is the reason it has no entry in the ISO 6346 container owner register and no conventional ocean carrier SCAC.
Scan Global tracking: what to check first
You are holding a house bill, not a carrier’s bill. Scan Global issues its own house bill of lading covering your consignment. The ocean carrier issues a separate master bill. If a number is not resolving, check which of the two you have. The house bill is what identifies your shipment within Scan Global’s system.
Vessel names in directory listings can mislead. Some business directories list specific ships against Scan Global’s shipment records. Those are vessels it booked space on for particular consignments, not part of any Scan Global fleet. The company owns none.
There is no Scan Global container prefix to look for. Any container prefix on your cargo belongs to the ocean carrier or a leasing company.
Multimodal means the tracking picture can change mode mid-journey. A single Scan Global booking might involve a road leg, an ocean leg and a final delivery, each reported by a different underlying provider. Gaps between legs are handovers rather than stalls.

The container passed through the terminal gate at the origin port and is now in the terminal's custody, waiting to be loaded.
Loaded on vessel
The box was lifted onto the ship. This is the milestone that fixes your shipment to a specific vessel and voyage number.
Vessel departure
The ship has sailed from the origin port. Transit time is measured from here, and it is the point most ETA calculations are anchored to.
Transshipment
The container was discharged at an intermediate hub and will be reloaded onto a second vessel. Most delays originate here rather than at origin.
Discharged
The container came off the ship at the destination port. Free time and demurrage clocks typically start from this event.
Gate out
The container left the terminal on a truck or rail wagon. Once this fires, the terminal's storage charges stop and the haulier's clock starts.
Empty return
The unpacked container was returned to the carrier's nominated depot. This closes the shipment and stops any per-diem detention charges.

We do not publish one. The code "SGBW" appears on US import record profiles, but that reflects an NVOCC-style identifier in customs data rather than a corroborated ocean carrier SCAC, and it did not appear on the independent SCAC lists we checked.
