Wan Hai container prefixes
These owner codes are registered to Wan Hai Lines Ltd. in the BIC ISO 6346 register. Containers moving under a Wan Hai booking may also carry a leasing company's prefix. A leased box is still your shipment, the prefix just does not identify the carrier.

About Wan Hai
Wan Hai Lines was founded in Taiwan in 1965, originally carrying timber from Southeast Asia to Japan, and converted to container operations in the 1970s. It has stayed close to that regional focus ever since: Wan Hai is the intra-Asia specialist that the global alliances feed into, rather than a competitor on the long-haul lanes.
That focus is reflected in the fleet: a large number of relatively small, flexible ships rather than a handful of very large ones. It gives Wan Hai direct-call coverage on port pairs the majors would only serve by transshipment, which is why its name turns up on Asian regional legs of shipments booked with someone else entirely.
Wan Hai is affiliated with Interasia Lines, another intra-Asia operator, though the two run separately for booking and tracking purposes.
Wan Hai tracking: what to check first
UETU is not a Wan Hai code. It belongs to UES International Leasing in Shanghai. Wan Hai leases those containers, which is why aggregator sites list the prefix under Wan Hai, but the BIC register attributes it to the lessor. The same caution applies to Triton, CAI and Beacon codes on Wan Hai cargo. A leased box is still your shipment; the prefix just does not name the carrier.
Only two prefixes are genuinely Wan Hai. WHLU and WHSU. If you have a list of a dozen “Wan Hai prefixes” from a tracking site, ten of them are leasing companies.
The carrier’s own portal is awkward to link to. Wan Hai runs its site on a Java-based framework that renders entirely client-side, so saved deep links to a specific tracking result often do not reopen the way you expect. Tracking here sidesteps that.
Wan Hai’s role as a feeder means a Pakistan-bound shipment frequently changes carrier at a transshipment hub. When the Wan Hai leg ends, the trail continues under whoever operates the onward service, so a timeline that stops at a hub discharge is usually a handover rather than a problem.

Gate in
The container passed through the terminal gate at the origin port and is now in the terminal's custody, waiting to be loaded.
Loaded on vessel
The box was lifted onto the ship. This is the milestone that fixes your shipment to a specific vessel and voyage number.
Vessel departure
The ship has sailed from the origin port. Transit time is measured from here, and it is the point most ETA calculations are anchored to.
Transshipment
The container was discharged at an intermediate hub and will be reloaded onto a second vessel. Most delays originate here rather than at origin.
Discharged
The container came off the ship at the destination port. Free time and demurrage clocks typically start from this event.
Gate out
The container left the terminal on a truck or rail wagon. Once this fires, the terminal's storage charges stop and the haulier's clock starts.
Empty return
The unpacked container was returned to the carrier's nominated depot. This closes the shipment and stops any per-diem detention charges.

No. The BIC register shows UETU belongs to UES International Leasing Limited in Shanghai. It appears on aggregator lists for Wan Hai because Wan Hai leases those boxes, but the prefix identifies the owner rather than the carrier. Wan Hai's own prefixes are WHLU and WHSU.

We do not publish one. WHLC is the value most often quoted, but it could not be independently confirmed. Wan Hai was absent from one published ocean-carrier SCAC list, and another gives 22AA, which cannot be a valid SCAC because SCAC codes are alphabetic. Rather than publish a guess, we leave the field out.

Yes, Interasia Lines is an affiliated intra-Asia operator. They are separate carriers with separate container prefixes and separate booking systems, so an Interasia number will not resolve as Wan Hai, but you may see the two names on connected routings.
Why is my Wan Hai number not found?

Check the prefix is actually WHLU or WHSU rather than a lessor's code, and remove any spaces. Beyond that, the usual causes apply: a booking reference the carrier has not released movement events against yet, or a shipment that has closed and been retired.
