What a Samudera Shipping Line tracking number looks like

The lookup above accepts any of these in the same field. If one returns nothing, try another. Carriers release milestone data against different identifiers at different stages.

Container number

4 letters + 7 digits (11 characters)

SIKU1234567

Standard ISO 6346. SIKU is the only prefix registered to Samudera Shipping Line: not SMDU, which belongs to 3M, and not SITU, which is SITC.

Bill of lading number

Alphanumeric, no publicly documented format

SMDRSIN123456

Samudera publishes no B/L specification. Enter the number exactly as printed on your document.

Booking number

Alphanumeric

12345678

Accepted in the same field as container and B/L numbers.

Samudera Shipping Line container prefixes

These owner codes are registered to Samudera Shipping Line Ltd in the BIC ISO 6346 register. Containers moving under a Samudera Shipping Line booking may also carry a leasing company's prefix. A leased box is still your shipment, the prefix just does not identify the carrier.

Step by step

How to track a Samudera Shipping Line shipment

  1. 1

Find your container or BL number

It is printed on your bill of lading, your booking confirmation, or on the container door itself. Any of the three works in the search box above.

  2. 2

Samudera Shipping Line is already selected

Because you are on the Samudera Shipping Line page, the carrier dropdown is filled in for you. If you actually need a different line, change it. The selection is not locked.

  3. 3

Enter the number and press Track

Type it exactly as printed. Spaces and dashes are fine, but a mistyped letter will return nothing, since the check digit at the end only validates against the correct serial.

  4. 4

    Read the milestone timeline

You will see terminal and vessel events from origin gate-in through to empty return, plus the vessel and voyage your box is actually on.

About Samudera Shipping Line

Samudera Shipping Line Ltd was incorporated in Singapore in 1993 as the container shipping arm of PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk, the Jakarta-listed Indonesian logistics group. The split matters when you are looking the company up: the shipping line is Singaporean and listed on the Singapore Exchange, while its parent is Indonesian and listed in Jakarta. Both descriptions are correct, they just refer to different entities.

That exchange listing has a practical benefit for anyone researching the carrier. Samudera files audited annual reports, so its fleet figures are company reported rather than estimated: 31 vessels as of FY2023, comprising 24 container ships alongside four chemical tankers and three gas tankers. For a regional carrier of this size that level of disclosure is genuinely uncommon; most comparable operators publish nothing and leave you relying on trade-press guesswork.

Operationally, Samudera runs as an intra-Asia feeder and regional line from a Singapore hub, with services reaching Southeast Asia, the Far East, the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East, plus a substantial Indonesian domestic network inherited from the parent group’s home market.

Samudera tracking: what to check first

SMDU and SITU are not Samudera. These two show up repeatedly on tracking sites as Samudera prefixes and both are wrong. SMDU is registered to 3M Company. SITU belongs to SITC Container Lines, a different Asian carrier entirely. The only Samudera code in the BIC register is SIKU.

Check which entity your paperwork names. Documentation might reference Samudera Shipping Line, PT Samudera Indonesia, or simply Samudera. They are related companies in one group, but a container number resolves against the shipping line specifically.

The .com domain does not currently resolve. During research, samudera.com failed to load while samudera.id (the group site hosting the shipping line’s pages) worked normally. If a saved bookmark stops working, that is why rather than anything being wrong with your shipment.

Samudera is often one leg of a longer journey. As a feeder operator it frequently carries cargo between a regional port and a hub, handing off to a deep-sea carrier for the main crossing. A timeline that ends at a transshipment port is usually that handover, not a stalled box.

Status glossary

What each Samudera Shipping Line tracking status means

Ocean carriers share the same terminal and vessel event vocabulary, so these milestones read the same whichever line you are tracking.

login

Gate in

The container passed through the terminal gate at the origin port and is now in the terminal's custody, waiting to be loaded.

directions_boat

Loaded on vessel

The box was lifted onto the ship. This is the milestone that fixes your shipment to a specific vessel and voyage number.

sailing

Vessel departure

The ship has sailed from the origin port. Transit time is measured from here, and it is the point most ETA calculations are anchored to.

swap_horiz

Transshipment

The container was discharged at an intermediate hub and will be reloaded onto a second vessel. Most delays originate here rather than at origin.

anchor

Discharged

The container came off the ship at the destination port. Free time and demurrage clocks typically start from this event.

logout

Gate out

The container left the terminal on a truck or rail wagon. Once this fires, the terminal's storage charges stop and the haulier's clock starts.

check_circle

Empty return

The unpacked container was returned to the carrier's nominated depot. This closes the shipment and stops any per-diem detention charges.

FAQ

Samudera Shipping Line tracking questions

Which container prefix does Samudera use?

expand_more

SIKU, registered to Samudera Shipping Line Ltd in Singapore. Two codes are commonly and wrongly attributed to Samudera by tracking sites: SMDU, which the BIC register shows belongs to 3M Company, and SITU, which belongs to SITC Container Lines. Neither is a Samudera container.

Is Samudera Indonesian or Singaporean?

expand_more

Both, depending on which entity you mean. Samudera Shipping Line Ltd, the container shipping company, is incorporated and headquartered in Singapore and listed on the Singapore Exchange. Its parent, PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk, is Indonesian and listed in Jakarta.

How large is Samudera's fleet?

expand_more

31 vessels as of its FY2023 annual report: 24 container ships plus 4 chemical tankers and 3 gas tankers. Because Samudera is exchange-listed, this figure comes from audited company reporting rather than a third-party estimate, which is unusual for a regional carrier of this size.

When was Samudera Shipping Line founded?

expand_more

The Singapore container shipping entity was incorporated in 1993. The wider Samudera Indonesia group is considerably older, so you may see earlier dates quoted for the group rather than for the shipping line.

What is Samudera's SCAC code?

expand_more

We do not publish one. "SIKU" is widely repeated as the SCAC, but that is the confirmed BIC container prefix, a separate registry, and it appeared on only one of the independent SCAC lists we checked. We would rather omit it than present a single-sourced value as fact.

What routes does Samudera serve?

expand_more

It is an intra-Asia feeder and regional operator working from Singapore as its hub, connecting Southeast Asia, the Far East, the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East, with a strong Indonesian domestic and regional network reflecting its parent group.

Does Maalbardaar charge for Samudera tracking?

expand_more

No. Tracking is included with a free Maalbardaar account, which also lets you keep shipments across several carriers on one dashboard instead of chasing each carrier separately.

Carrier data sources: SIKU confirmed against the BIC ISO 6346 register as Samudera Shipping Line Ltd, Singapore, with the 6 Raffles Quay registered address. SMDU and SITU are deliberately excluded: the register shows SMDU belongs to 3M Company and SITU to the unrelated SITC Container Lines. Fleet of 31 vessels (24 container ships plus chemical and gas tankers) from Samudera's own FY2023 annual report filed via the Singapore Exchange. SCAC omitted: "SIKU" is repeated by aggregators but appeared on only one independent published SCAC list. Note the carrier's samudera.com domain did not resolve during research; samudera.id is the working group site.
