KMTC container prefixes
These owner codes are registered to Korea Marine Transport Co., Ltd. in the BIC ISO 6346 register. Containers moving under a KMTC booking may also carry a leasing company's prefix. A leased box is still your shipment, the prefix just does not identify the carrier.

About KMTC
Korea Marine Transport Co. was founded in 1954, which makes it one of the oldest Korean shipping companies still trading. Unlike HMM, it never chased the deep-sea lanes. KMTC built its business on intra-Asia services, particularly the Korea–China and Korea–Japan legs, and later extended into Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East.
It operates from the Hanjin Building in Jung-gu, Seoul. The company runs a comparatively small fleet of mid-sized ships, which suits the high-frequency regional trades it serves: several sailings a week on short routes rather than a fortnightly deep-sea rotation.
For anyone tracking, the distinctive fact about KMTC is how little of its container fleet it actually owns. One prefix is registered to the company. Every other code you will see on a KMTC shipment belongs to a leasing company.
KMTC tracking: what to check first
Your container is probably leased, and that is normal. KMTU is the only prefix registered to KMTC. If your box reads TEMU, CAIU, BMOU, SEGU, FCIU, FTAU or any of a dozen others, it is a leased container on a genuine KMTC booking. Aggregator sites list all of these as “KMTC prefixes”, which is misleading: they are Triton, CAI, Beacon, Seaco, Florens and others. Do not conclude you have the wrong carrier.
The carrier’s own tracking link may not deep-link. KMTC’s e-service portal is
a single-page application whose tracking route sits after a # fragment.
Fragments never reach the server, so a saved link often just opens the portal
home screen and you have to navigate again. Its corporate domain and its
e-service domain are also different, which adds to the confusion.
No published B/L format exists. Nothing official documents one, and unlike MSC or Evergreen there is no worked example on the carrier’s own site. Enter exactly what is printed.
KMTC’s Middle East and subcontinent services put it on the Pakistan trades directly rather than purely as a feeder, but connections through Southeast Asian hubs are still common, so expect a quiet stretch in the timeline while a box waits for its onward vessel.

Ocean carriers share the same terminal and vessel event vocabulary, so these milestones read the same whichever line you are tracking.
Gate in
The container passed through the terminal gate at the origin port and is now in the terminal's custody, waiting to be loaded.
Loaded on vessel
The box was lifted onto the ship. This is the milestone that fixes your shipment to a specific vessel and voyage number.
Vessel departure
The ship has sailed from the origin port. Transit time is measured from here, and it is the point most ETA calculations are anchored to.
Transshipment
The container was discharged at an intermediate hub and will be reloaded onto a second vessel. Most delays originate here rather than at origin.
Discharged
The container came off the ship at the destination port. Free time and demurrage clocks typically start from this event.
Gate out
The container left the terminal on a truck or rail wagon. Once this fires, the terminal's storage charges stop and the haulier's clock starts.
Empty return
The unpacked container was returned to the carrier's nominated depot. This closes the shipment and stops any per-diem detention charges.

One: KMTU. That is unusual, and it has a practical consequence: a large proportion of the containers on KMTC bookings are leased and carry a leasing company's prefix. Seeing TEMU, CAIU, BMOU, SEGU or FCIU on a KMTC shipment is completely normal.
Is FTAU a KMTC prefix?

No. FTAU belongs to Florens Asset Management, COSCO's container leasing arm. It gets listed under KMTC because KMTC leases Florens boxes. The same applies to every other prefix you will find on aggregator lists for this carrier. KMTU is the only one registered to KMTC itself.

KMTC's e-service portal is a single-page application and its tracking route lives after a hash fragment in the URL. Fragments are handled entirely in the browser, so deep links to a specific result are unreliable and often just load the portal home screen. Tracking here avoids that.
