Wan Hai’s connection to Hamad Port is unusually well documented for an intra-Asia carrier, because it was launched as news in its own right rather than as a minor addition to a larger string. In August 2017, Wan Hai and Simatech Shipping jointly launched the Pakistan Gulf Service (PGS), a weekly direct link between Hamad Port and Karachi, Pakistan. The inaugural call was made by the container vessel Libra, and the launch was covered by multiple Qatari outlets, including Qatar Tribune, The Peninsula and Gulf Times, all describing it as a new direct route intended to grow trade volume between the two countries. At launch, the service was reported running two vessels of around 1,200 TEU each, one contributed by each operator, with a transit time of about 6 days from Hamad Port to Karachi and 8 days on the return leg.

Anyone researching this carrier online should watch for a naming collision: ONE (Ocean Network Express) later launched its own, entirely separate service also called the Pakistan Gulf Service, in October 2025 — eight years after Wan Hai and Simatech’s PGS and with a completely different rotation (Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi, Sohar, Karachi, Port Qasim) that does not call Hamad Port at all. The two services share nothing but an acronym and a general Pakistan-Gulf theme. If a document or a search result mentions “PGS,” check which carrier is actually named before assuming it describes Wan Hai’s Qatar-Karachi route.

We could not confirm which terminal Wan Hai’s PGS calls discharge at, at Hamad Port. We also could not confirm whether Simatech Shipping, the named launch partner, currently holds a formal appointment as Wan Hai’s local agent in Qatar in an ongoing sense, as distinct from having been the co-operator that helped launch the service in 2017; no source we checked updates that relationship to the present day, so it is described here only as the documented 2017 launch partnership.
