Hapag-Lloyd is one of the few major carriers on this site’s Pakistan roster to run its own branded local entity rather than working solely through a third-party agent. Hapag-Lloyd Pakistan (Private) Limited maintains offices in Karachi, at Bahria Complex-1 on M.T. Khan Road, and in Lahore, at the Mall of Lahore. That structure means Pakistan-based shippers dealing with Hapag-Lloyd are more likely to be in contact with the carrier’s own staff than an appointed agency, which is not the case for every carrier covered on this site.

The service that actually connects Pakistan to Hapag-Lloyd’s network is called PKS. Under its standard configuration, described in Hapag-Lloyd’s own Middle East operational updates, the rotation runs Jebel Ali, Kandla, Karachi, back to Jebel Ali, then on to Shuaiba and Shuwaikh before returning to Jebel Ali, a loop that ties Karachi into the wider Gulf network through Jebel Ali as the transshipment point for onward global connections.

That standard pattern has not held steady through 2025 and 2026. Two separate disruptions are documented in Hapag-Lloyd’s own operational updates and trade-press coverage of them. Earlier, Hapag-Lloyd moved Pakistan cargo onto feeder capacity routed via Salalah after direct port access between India and Pakistan came under restriction, rather than continuing a rotation that combined both countries’ calls. More recently, the carrier dropped the Jebel Ali call from PKS entirely and ran a shortened Karachi-Bin Qasim-Salalah- Karachi loop, meaning both Karachi and Port Qasim (Bin Qasim) were called directly on that version of the service, without the usual Jebel Ali leg. If you are booking Hapag-Lloyd on this corridor now, check the current operational update for PKS rather than assuming either the standard or the shortened rotation is what is currently running, since the carrier has adjusted it more than once in a short period.

Clearing a Hapag-Lloyd Shipment in Pakistan

Clearance for a Hapag-Lloyd container discharged at Karachi or Port Qasim follows the standard WeBOC and Pakistan Single Window filing: Goods Declaration, bill of lading, commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin where applicable, matched against the vessel manifest. One practical note specific to Hapag-Lloyd, covered on the parent carrier page on this site, is that its bills of lading run longer than most carriers’ and typically embed a three-letter office code; enter that reference exactly as printed rather than trimming it, since a Pakistan-issued Hapag-Lloyd B/L will carry the same extended format as one issued anywhere else in the network.

Given how often PKS’s port rotation has changed recently, do not assume a transshipment leg quoted for an earlier booking still applies. Confirm directly with Hapag-Lloyd Pakistan’s Karachi or Lahore office, or with your forwarder, which version of the rotation your specific sailing is on, since the difference between a Jebel Ali connection and a direct Karachi-Bin Qasim-Salalah loop changes both your expected transit time and where any transshipment delay is likely to occur.
