OOCL
Discharge at SAPT and QICT in Pakistan
OOCL discharges its dedicated China-Pakistan strings at two named terminals, SAPT in Karachi and QICT at Port Qasim, rather than a single fixed berth. Here is how those calls fit together and what a Pakistani importer should check before assuming a delay.
OOCL Into Pakistan
OOCL reaches Pakistan through named China Pakistan Express strings rather than a single generic Asia service. CPX3, added in December 2017, rotates Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Port Klang, Mundra, Karachi and Port Qasim before heading back through Singapore to Qingdao. At the time OOCL announced it, the carrier described three sailings a week reaching Pakistan from Asia once CPX3 joined the pre-existing CPX and CPX2 strings, meaning OOCL’s Pakistan coverage was already built from multiple parallel services rather than one loop carrying everything.
The terminal detail is unusually specific for a public service announcement: CPX3’s own rotation names South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPT) as the Karachi call and Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) as the Port Qasim call, in that order. That is worth knowing because Karachi has three container terminals in active use, and an arrival notice that simply says “Karachi” without a terminal name is more common than you would expect. If your OOCL booking traces back to CPX3, SAPT is where to start looking for your box.
That said, this is a 2017-era service announcement, and OOCL, like every carrier, reassigns strings to different terminals as concessions and berth availability change over the years. Treat SAPT and QICT as the confirmed pattern for CPX3 specifically, not a permanent rule for every OOCL sailing into Pakistan. Always check the terminal named on your own arrival notice or delivery order before showing up at a gate.
One routing detail worth flagging for anyone tracking cargo from China: CPX3 calls at Mundra, on India’s west coast, before Karachi and Port Qasim. A tracking update showing a Mundra port call is a scheduled stop on this string, not evidence of a diversion or an error in your documentation.
Clearing an OOCL Shipment in Pakistan
Clearance at SAPT and QICT both run through WeBOC and the Pakistan Single Window, and the process itself does not differ by terminal: a goods declaration filed against your invoice, packing list and bill of lading, followed by assessment and either direct release or examination. Maalbardaar files this declaration and coordinates with whichever terminal your container lands at, so the SAPT-versus-QICT distinction matters for planning your pickup logistics more than it matters for the paperwork itself.
Where the terminal does matter is delivery-order collection and gate logistics: SAPT sits at Karachi’s West Wharf while QICT is at Port Qasim, a meaningfully different location with its own access roads and container yard layout. If you are used to collecting from one and your OOCL booking routes through the other, confirm the correct gate and yard before sending a transporter, since the two are not interchangeable pickup points despite both showing as “Pakistan” on a tracking summary. Because CPX3 also calls at Mundra ahead of Pakistan, build a little slack into your customs filing timeline if your cargo originates in China: a missed connection or delay at the Mundra call shifts your actual discharge date at SAPT or QICT without necessarily showing up as an exception on the tracking event feed.

OOCL tracking to Pakistan — questions
Which terminal does OOCL use in Karachi?
expand_more
On its China Pakistan Express 3 (CPX3) rotation, OOCL names South Asia Pakistan Terminals (SAPT) as the Karachi call and Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) as the Port Qasim call, in that order, per OOCL's own service announcement. Other OOCL-served strings may use different terminals; check your specific booking.
What is OOCL's China Pakistan Express (CPX) service?
expand_more
A named string connecting Chinese ports to the Indian subcontinent and Pakistan. CPX3, added in December 2017, rotates Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Port Klang, Mundra, Karachi (SAPT) and Port Qasim (QICT) before returning via Singapore to Qingdao. It runs alongside earlier CPX and CPX2 strings rather than replacing them.
How many weekly OOCL sailings reach Pakistan?
expand_more
OOCL described its Pakistan coverage as three sailings a week from Asia once CPX3 joined the existing CPX and CPX2 services. That figure is from OOCL's own 2017 service announcement, so treat it as the coverage level at launch rather than a live number.
Does an OOCL container from China stop in India before Pakistan?
expand_more
On CPX3, yes: the published rotation calls at Mundra before Karachi and Port Qasim. If your cargo is delayed and your tracking shows a Mundra call, that is a scheduled stop on the string, not a diversion.
Why does my OOCL booking show SAPT for Karachi and not KICT?
expand_more
Because different OOCL strings can call at different Karachi terminals, and SAPT is the one named in CPX3's own rotation. If your cargo moved on a different service, or if OOCL has since reassigned a string to another terminal, the terminal on your arrival notice overrides anything a general service description implies.
Does Maalbardaar handle OOCL customs clearance at SAPT or QICT?
expand_more
Yes, at either terminal. Maalbardaar files the WeBOC goods declaration and coordinates delivery-order collection regardless of which of Karachi's or Port Qasim's terminals your OOCL container discharges at.
