QTerminals is the company that actually runs Hamad Port’s terminals day to day, and its ownership structure is worth understanding because it differs from the pattern seen at many major ports worldwide — including Pakistan’s, where Hutchison Ports and DP World operate Karachi’s and Port Qasim’s container terminals as foreign concessionaires. QTerminals is instead a joint venture between two Qatari entities: Mwani Qatar, the national port authority, holding 51%, and Qatar Navigation — publicly known as Milaha and listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange — holding the remaining 49%.

QTerminals was legally incorporated on 10 May 2017, with the joint venture itself formally established on 30 November 2017, though it had already commenced actual operations at Hamad Port in December 2016 — the legal paperwork caught up to an operation that was already running. This is a structural point worth noting for anyone researching the company: dates tied to “when QTerminals started” depend on whether the source means operational commencement or legal incorporation, and they are roughly a year apart.

What QTerminals Operates

QTerminals runs Hamad Port’s two operational container terminals, CT1 and CT2, along with the General Cargo Terminal (bulk and break-bulk cargo), the Multi-Use Terminal (RORO and vehicles), and an Offshore Supply Terminal. The planned third container terminal, CT3, is expected to eventually fall under the same operating structure, though this has not been separately confirmed. QTerminals has also stated ambitions to expand its operations internationally, adding terminals outside Qatar over the coming years — described publicly as an aspiration rather than a completed step.

Milaha itself, QTerminals’ minority partner, is a considerably larger business than its stake in this one joint venture suggests: a publicly-listed shipping and logistics conglomerate with operations across shipping, offshore services and trading, of which the QTerminals partnership is one piece.

Clearing Cargo Through a QTerminals Facility

Regardless of which specific Hamad Port terminal a shipment discharges at, customs clearance runs through the same Al-Nadeeb national single-window system operated by Qatar’s General Authority of Customs. Maalbardaar coordinates clearance and inland delivery for cargo moving through any QTerminals-operated facility at Hamad Port, whether that’s a container terminal, the general cargo facility, or the vehicle terminal.
