Hamad Port’s Vehicle and RORO Terminal

The Multi-Use Terminal (MUT) is Hamad Port’s dedicated facility for RORO (roll-on/roll-off) cargo and vehicles, distinct from the container terminals and the General Cargo Terminal that share the same port. MUT runs a 770-metre berth at 12.5 metres draft, rated for 500,000 units a year, and like Hamad Port’s other terminals is operated by QTerminals, the joint venture between Mwani Qatar and Qatar Navigation (Milaha).

MUT has posted genuine growth in recent reporting. December 2024 set an all-time monthly RORO throughput record at Hamad Port, with 16,681 units and 281,096 freight tonnes handled in a single month, and a single-vessel record of 3,739 units and 55,307 freight tonnes set by the M/V Thermopylae — evidence that vehicle and rolling-cargo volumes into Qatar have scaled meaningfully alongside the port’s container growth.

Clearing Vehicles and RORO Cargo at MUT

Vehicles and RORO cargo discharged at MUT clear through Al-Nadeeb, Qatar’s national customs single window, though the documentation for vehicle imports (registration, specification compliance, and in some cases Qatar-specific import permits) differs from standard container clearance. Maalbardaar coordinates customs filing and inland delivery for cargo moving through MUT, adapted to the specific requirements of vehicle and rolling-cargo shipments rather than treated as standard container freight.
