Hamad Port’s Non-Containerized Cargo Facility

The General Cargo Terminal (GCT) is Hamad Port’s dedicated facility for bulk and break-bulk shipments — cargo that doesn’t move in standard containers. It is physically and operationally separate from CT1, CT2 and the planned CT3, though it shares the same port infrastructure and is operated by the same company, QTerminals, the joint venture between Mwani Qatar and Qatar Navigation (Milaha).

GCT runs a 1,200-metre berth at 17 metres draft, matching the container terminals’ physical specifications, with a rated annual throughput of 6.3 million tonnes. That scale reflects Hamad Port’s broader design intent: the port was built to handle Qatar’s full range of maritime cargo needs, not just container traffic, alongside the Multi-Use Terminal (which handles vehicles and RORO cargo) and an offshore supply depot.

Clearing General Cargo at GCT

Non-containerized cargo discharged at GCT clears through the same Al-Nadeeb customs single-window system as container shipments elsewhere at Hamad Port, though the documentation and inspection process for bulk and break-bulk cargo differs from standard container clearance. Maalbardaar coordinates customs filing and inland delivery arrangements for cargo moving through GCT, adjusted for the cargo type rather than treated as a standard container clearance.
